The Hwaeom Spiritual Music Ritual is a spiritual music festival designed to look into ourselves through a musical ritual. In 2017, the theme of the 12th Hwaeom Spiritual Music Ritual is "self-evidence." "Self-evidence" refers to being clear without further explanation or demonstration. Knowing the truth is a path to achieve enlightenment in Buddhism: a state of jikjiinsim (直指人心, to look inside yourself) and gyeonseongseongbul (見性成佛, to know your true nature). The clear, vivid light of self-evidence directs you to make correct decisions, judgments, and choices in your life. Through this, we can build better selves than yesterday. The Hwaeom Spiritual Music Ritual wishes to be a festival where we can think about the self-evidence of "true self" through music, performance, and rituals.
