When Will | Voices We Must Remember

August 14 is the Memorial Day for Japanese Military “Comfort Women” Victims,
followed by Korea’s Liberation Day on August 15.

On these days of remembrance, I return to this piece once again.

Pianist Sooji Jung’s 〈When Will〉 was inspired by artist Al Choi’s work, 〈Broken Memory_A Girl of Peace〉.

“They may take my body, but they can never take my heart.”
— The late Jeong Seo-un, a survivor of Japanese military sexual slavery

This music carries the sorrow and longing of a young girl who could not return home,
and the hope that, one day, she might become a butterfly and finally find her way back.

As long as we continue to remember,
their voices will never disappear.
